On 6/28/2025, our beloved father who always prayed for us, Margarito Perez, 102, quietly passed away. He was born in Cerritos S.L.P, Mexico to Quirino Perez and Maria Julia Sanchez. He was married to Matilde Aguilar with whom he shared 5 children: Guadalupe (Maureen), Elvia (Jack), Beatriz, Roberto (Annie), and Maria.

As a young man in his 20's, due to labor shortages in the US during World War II, our father came here and worked as a farm laborer during the Bracero Period. By early 1950's, he settled in Brownsville, Texas and started his family. In 1955, he moved his family to Chicago for a better life and working opportunities. He worked in various factories while his family continued to grow and was active in his Catholic faith. He organized the Spanish speaking communities both at St. Mary Catholic Church, and later at St. Lucia Catholic Church in Bridgeport, advocating for Spanish Mass, and where he raised his family. In his early 60's he retired from his last factory job, only to emerge as a vendor on Maxwell St. He sold tires for many years until he moved into senior housing. When the staff there, noticed his work ethic, they employed him as a part time cleaning attendant. At age 89 he was retired. He loved working and keeping busy. When he became a member of the SW Regional Senior Center, he organized the first Latino Club to promote cultural pride and celebration of his Mexican roots.

Our father was well known and liked by the other residents of his building, and by people in his neighborhood where he lived for over 27 years. He loved Mariachi music, enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards and dominos and writing stories. In his younger years; writing music, playing his guitar and the accordion. He visited his siblings in Mexico often, and he really loved dogs! Our father lived a full life and now he is with our Lord Jesus Christ.

His grandchildren include: Matthew, Christopher, Michael, Sarah, Adam, Andres and Citlalin.

His great-grandchildren are: Ayelech, Ryker, Asher, Wesley and Amira.

He was the eldest of 11 siblings: Lola, Maria, Beatriz, Humberto, Berta, Felicitas, Esther, Juan, Victor, and Benancio. He had many nieces and nephews both in Chicago and in Mexico. Thank you Papa for the legacy you leave behind!
