Margie S. Maya, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, at the age of 80 in Sun City, Arizona. Born on November 15, 1944, in Glendale, Arizona, Margie was raised in the Catholic Church, and her faith was a cornerstone of her life. A proud graduate of St. Mary’s High School, she carried the values instilled in her throughout her life, ultimately sharing that gift of faith with her children.

Throughout her career, Margie dedicated many years to administrative positions, finding her true calling as a teaching assistant for the Glendale School District. Through her passion for education, she left an indelible mark on the hearts of countless students, many of whom have reached out to express their condolences and share how much they cherished her guidance and support. Margie retired after many years, proud of her contributions to the lives of young learners.

She was a woman of grace and kindness, always radiating warmth and positivity. Margie's striking beauty was complemented by her attention to detail; she was always impeccably dressed with her hair and makeup done, a reflection of her vibrant spirit. She enjoyed cooking and her kitchen often welcomed family and friends with the delicious aroma of Mexican cuisine. Margie’s taco salad was legendary in her family, often preferred over dining out.

Margie greatly cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The memories created together were filled with laughter and love. Whether gathering to create charcuterie boards during the quiet days of the COVID shutdown, playing board games, or singing her favorite songs by Luis Miguel, Margie knew how to make every moment magical. Afternoon tea outings with her granddaughters were another treasured tradition; dressed in their finest, they enjoyed delightful afternoons full of sweets and stories.

In 1964, Margie was crowned the Queen of Fiestas in Glendale, an honor she wore with pride and a testament to her enthusiastic spirit and involvement in her community. Her kindness extended beyond her family as she touched the lives of everyone she met, leaving a lasting impression on each. Margie was not just a remarkable educator and community member; she was a devoted and loving matriarch.

Margie is preceded in death by her grandson, Rey Maldonado. She leaves behind her beloved husband of sixty years, Samuel Maya Sr.; son, Samuel Maya Jr. (Chacho); daughters, Mischaelle Maya (Shaelle) and Marianne Maldonado (Mimi); five grandchildren, Melissa Kerr, Desiree Blakesley, Jasmine Sirakis, Samuel Maya III (Sonny), and Reyna Maldonado; and seven great-grandchildren.

Margie’s life was a tapestry of love, faith, and joy, woven through every connection she made. She will be forever remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and her unwavering love for her family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, 2025, at the Menke Funeral & Cremation Center in Sun City, Arizona, where all are welcome to gather and honor her extraordinary legacy.
