Mari Kathryn Konn, age 75, of Bloomfield, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, with her family by her side. Mari was born on April 23, 1950, in East Stroudsburg, PA, to the late Jeanne A. Phillips and Joseph K. Konn. At an early age, her family moved to Glen Falls, NY, before settling in Bloomfield in 1958.
Mari graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1968. She then earned a BA in Education from Marywood University and an MA in Special Education from Kean University. Mari dedicated over 35 years to teaching in the Nutley School District, primarily as a first-grade teacher at Washington Elementary School and also servicing special education students.
Mari was a compassionate caregiver; selflessly caring for her maternal grandmother, parents, siblings, other family members, and friends. Mari loved traveling and was adventurous enough to go on a cross-country road trip with her four young nieces and nephews, providing them with unforgettable experiences. In retirement, she enjoyed cruises and cherished time with her grand-niece, Abigail Dawson.
Mari is survived by Rebekah Dawson, Jamie Konn (Shannon), and Vanya Konn, the children of Mari's late brother Kenneth who she brought into her home in 1990 and raised as her own, and their children, Abigail Dawson and Henry, Katherine, and Josephine Konn. She is also survived by her sister Terry Konn, her sister-in-law Dolores Konn (wife of Mari's late brother Joseph), and their families, including her nephew Marty Konn and her nieces Morgan Nystrom and Rachel Konn.
Services:
Visitation will be held at Halpin & Bitecola Funeral Home, in Bloomfield, NJ, on Thursday, November 20, from 3–7 pm. A funeral mass will take place at St. Thomas Apostle Church in Bloomfield, NJ, on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 10 am.
