SOUTHINGTON – It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Mary Ellen (Neeson) (Carolan) D’Angelo, age 82 of Southington, shares the news of her peaceful passing on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Summit of Plantsville, embraced in the loving arms of her family after an extended illness. She was the devoted wife of Anthony “Tony” D’Angelo.

Mary Ellen was born on April 14, 1943 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late John F. and Marguerite (Power) Neeson. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Marywood College in Scranton PA with a degree in Education. She also held advanced degrees from the University of Hartford, Central CT State College, and Sacred Heart University. For Mary Ellen, teaching was not just a profession — it was her life’s calling. Every lesson she taught, every student she encouraged, was part of a lifelong devotion to helping young people grow, learn, and believe in themselves. She first taught in the Waterbury Public School System, then at Holy Cross High School, and finally for the Southington Public Schools. She was also a volunteer at heart for Jaycee Women, the Women's League of the Waterbury Symphony, the Junior League, and many youth-sports-related activities in Waterbury. She enjoyed her years as a Team Leader for Weight Watchers and was particularly proud of her service as Chairperson of the Southington Library Board of Trustees. Mary Ellen was exceptional in almost every way, but she excelled the most at being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Nothing was more important to her than her family. Though Mary Ellen’s physical presence is no longer with us, her generosity, fierce loyalty, kindness, and love will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be dearly missed, fondly remembered, and forever celebrated.

Left to cherish Mary Ellen’s beautiful memory and honor her life, beside her beloved husband, Tony of 33 years are her son, Brian and his wife, Suzanne of Watertown and her grandchildren, Tyler and Olivia. She also leaves, her step-daughter, Bethany and her husband John Solury and her step-son, Joel and his wife Lisa D’Angelo along with her step-grandchildren, Ethan Solury and Grace D’Angelo as well as her three sisters-in-law; Mary Ann Landino and her husband DIck, Frances D’Angelo, and Paula Beckley and her husband Ed,  along with other extended family members and friends. Mary Ellen was sadly predeceased by her first husband, Peter Carolan and her son, Kevin Carolan.

Funeral services for Mrs. D’Angelo will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. at St Luke's Catholic Parish, St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St, Plantsville, CT 06479. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may pay their respects and visit with Mary Ellen’s family on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury, CT 06705. To honor Mary Ellen’s memory donations to Carolyn’s Place 137 Grandview Ave Waterbury CT 06708, would be greatly appreciated by her family. Loving kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence, words of comfort, or share a memory with the family and friends of someone important to you on the funeral home website.
