David F. Williams, Jr., 77, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 9. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen, with whom he shared 56 years of devoted marriage.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late David and Mary Stedina Williams. A proud graduate of South Catholic High School, David went on to earn an associate's degree from Penn State University and later a bachelor's degree in business management from Marywood University. He was also a proud Eagle Scout, an accomplishment that shaped his lifelong sense of leadership, service, and community. David served honorably in the United States Army, an experience that instilled a deep sense of pride and patriotism that remained with him throughout his life.
David spent many years in the hospitality industry, working at several resorts in the Pocono region. He later served as Director of Human Resources at Schiff's Food Service. A dedicated member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore, his faith was a guiding presence in his life.
Deeply committed to his community, David helped organize a celebration in Dunmore to honor and welcome home the troops of the Gulf War. He also played a key role in helping to establish the Dunmore Community Center. David was a proud supporter of youth athletics, coaching both Dunmore Little League and Dunmore Biddy Basketball, where he encouraged teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence in young players.
He was an avid Penn State football fan, a NASCAR enthusiast, and especially loved attending the annual Army-Navy football games. David cherished time spent traveling with family and friends, whether on trips to Las Vegas, visiting new states for racing events, or enjoying days spent fishing and boating. Above all, he loved being surrounded by family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
David will be remembered as a loyal husband, a proud, loving, and supportive father and grandfather, and a friend who leaves behind many cherished memories.
He is survived by his three sons, David C. Williams and wife, Kristina Nolan; Kevin Williams; and Brian Williams; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Brian, Emily, Justin, Ciara, and Joe; and wife, Brandi Ann; one great-granddaughter, Charlie Ann; as well as many cousins and dear friends.
The funeral will be held on Monday, November 17, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Those attending the mass are asked to go directly to the church that morning.
Friends may call on Sunday, November 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 East Drinker Street, Dunmore.
