Maria Mercedes Alva, 76, known by most as Mercedes, a resident of Houston, TX for 48 years, passed away on April 12, 2025. She was born July 30th,1948, in San Francisco del Rincon, Guanajuato, Mexico, to Saturnino and Maria Guadalupe Moreno. Mercedes was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Pearland, TX. After her marriage to Miguel, the couple moved to Okinawa, Japan to continue Miguel's service in the United States Air Force. Her family was always her joy and her top priority, but she always found opportunities to help others, provide a kind thought, and offer a meaningful prayer for the good of all. Her kindness and her subtle but infectious humor will remain in our memories, and her prayerful approach to life, while a model to us all,
will be missed.
Mercedes is preceded in death by her parents, Saturnino and Maria Guadalupe Moreno; her husband of 38 years, Miguel Alva; and her daughter, Alma Alva. She is survived by her son, Adrian Alva; daughter Bianca McCarver and her husband Brian, along with their children Aaron, Juliann, Adam, and Aiden; daughter Laura Alva; sister Teresa Lippold and her husband Steve along with their children Philip and Helen; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 E. Broadway St. Pearland, TX 77581. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 16th, 2025, at Crowder Funeral Home with Father Luis Garcia officiating.
