Maria Castriota Obituary

Maria lived her life in Brooklyn until moving to Mahopac in October 1979. She was a very giving person and gave freely of her time to several local organizations, including the Putnam Hospital Center Thrift Shop in Mahopac as well as the reception desk in the lobby of the hospital; the Woman's Resource Center in Mahopac and Putnam CAP, where she volunteered in the food pantry.
Maria retired from Chase Bank in Manhattan with the title of Vice President – Facilities Management in 2004 after 39 years with the bank. In Mahopac, she was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church. She loved to read in her spare time.
At the age of 19, she married her husband, Thomas Castriota in Brooklyn. Thomas passed away on October 3, 2006. Maria is survived by her sister, Carmella Argento and her nieces and nephews, Thomas Castriota, Ann Marie Beery, Steven Castriota and Michele Sparks and their families.
Maria had great love for her family and was a loyal, heartwarming friend to many. She was reserved in many ways, but possessed a great sense of humor and wittiness.
Visiting will be held on Wednesday, October 12 from 4-8 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 13 at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac with interment to follow at Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel, NY.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Maria to the Putnam Humane Society, P.O. Box 297, Carmel, NY 10512.
