Nelide M. (Barbaro)

God peacefully called the kind and beautiful soul of Nelide M. Lenti (Barbaro) home on August 15, 2025, at the venerable age of 94. She is predeceased by her loving mother and father, Brigida and Pietro, and siblings, Nina, Arlindo, and Frank. She is survived by her loving children, Dina, Peter, Salvatore III; survived by her adoring grandchildren Francis Jr., Kaila, Salvatore IV, Gregory, Michelle, Sofia, Steven and Celia; and also survived by her caring great-grandchildren Rosalínn, Liliana, Roy and Zoë.

Nelide was born in San Lucido, Italy, and journeyed to the United States with her family aboard the SS Rex, settling in the Bronx, New York in pursuit of the American dream. From a young age, family was the cornerstone of her life and remained her greatest joy. Her life was defined by enduring qualities-an unwavering love for family, devoted service to God, and a deep commitment to her community. These values shaped everything she did and left a lasting legacy in the hearts of those who knew her.

From an early age, Nelide discovered a deep passion for language, writing, and music. She immersed herself in creative pursuits, joining the school newspaper and various writing groups that nurtured her expressive spirit. This love of language became a lifelong devotion-she spoke three languages fluently and shared her knowledge with others, often teaching about the timeless works of classic playwrights like Shakespeare. Pursuing this passion further, Nelide attended college courses at NYU, where she continued her studies in languages. Later, Nelide moved to Mahopac, New York and become a selfless and devoted mother to her three children, putting their needs and happiness first and supporting them in all their dreams. Her kindness extended well beyond family providing love and care to those in need. Her devotion to family and friends reflected her generous spirit. Nelide continued to bring this same support, dedication, and affection to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There was only one thing in life more important to Nelide than her family-her unwavering faith in God. Her deep devotion shaped every aspect of her life, guiding her actions and nurturing her compassionate spirit. By placing her faith first, Nelide became a living example of what it means to be a faithful, loving servant of the Lord. Her caring nature radiated through her relationships, and she made it her mission to share her faith with those she loved. Through quiet conversations, heartfelt prayers, and gentle encouragement, she helped others grow closer to God, enriching their lives with spiritual strength and grace. Nelide's impact on the world was subtle yet profound. She had a rare gift-the ability to make each person feel special, seen, and deeply loved. The echoes of her laughter, the wisdom of her words, and the comfort of her presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

We honor Nelide not only in her passing, but in the extraordinary life she led. Her story does not end here; it lives on in the community she uplifted, the family she cherished, and the countless hearts she touched. We will forever keep her in our hearts.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Home, 418 Route 6 (GPS US-6), Mahopac, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate Nelide's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at St. Joseph's Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY.

Following the Mass, Nelide will be escorted to her final resting place and entombed in the Mausoleum at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made in memory of Nelide to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Children's.
