DaROSA, Maria Idalina (née Machado) was born on Monday, June 24, 1935 in Horta, Faial, Azores, Portugal and peacefully passed away in Beavercreek, Ohio on Sunday, August 02, 2025, while lovingly surrounded by family.

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of a devoted wife, beloved mother, cherished grandmother, and treasured great-grandmother. Maria was born in the serene coastal town of Horta, on the island of Faial in the Azores, Portugal. Alongside her husband and children, she later immigrated to Massachusetts, before finally settling in California-a place where she would build a home full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Though she received only a grade school education, Maria held the most important title of all: homemaker. She was the heart of her family, a mother not just to her own children but to everyone who crossed her threshold. Her home was a haven-always warm, welcoming, and full of the smells of something delicious on the stove. No one ever left her house hungry or unloved.

Maria lived life with grace and intention. Her hands were rarely still-whether trimming her roses, harvesting fruit from her garden, or cooking up seafood feasts with treasures gathered on beach days. She found joy in the simple pleasures: gardening, cooking, long walks in the countryside, and collecting sea grass on family trips to the ocean. Her greatest joy, however, was spending quality time with loved ones and making memories that will live on in our hearts.

She was a gentle spirit with incredible strength. Maria carried the essence of the Azores in everything she did-nurturing, generous, and spirited. She had a radiant energy that filled every room she entered. She loved dancing, especially at Portuguese festas, and her weekends were filled with music, delicious meals, and laughter. Her kitchen was a classroom where she passed down recipes, wisdom, and love-teaching generations how to cook traditional Portuguese dishes and even how to make homemade wine and liquors.

Her faith was unwavering, and she was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Her beliefs were a guiding light in her life and an inspiration to those around her.

Some of our most treasured memories were made simply being with her-our beloved Vavó. Whether it was beach days in Massachusetts with buckets for clams, crabs, and seaweed; or quiet evenings on the porch swing in California, Maria had a way of turning ordinary moments into lifelong memories. Her grandkids remember her playful smile, the soft pinch of her hand on their cheeks, and a fridge always stocked with Portuguese cookies. Her home was a magical place-filled with stories, music (often Elvis Presley), and the comforting sound of her voice cheering or laughing at Spanish soap operas.

Maria lived every day with elegance-from her signature burgundy nails and beautifully done hair to the way she made every person feel like the most important in the world.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jose Silvera Da Rosa, her first daughter Cidalia Maria DaRosa, her father Eduardo Elias Machado, mother Maria do Céu Machado, and her brother Manuel Machado.

She is survived by her loving daughters Theresa DaRosa, Angela (Mark) Grindle, and Cidalia (Lance) Maurer. She also leaves behind her adoring grandchildren: Jessica DaRosa, Chasidy (Demetrio) Martinez, Tiffany (Christopher) Rak, Alyssa (Bennito) Russo, Amber Slama, Timothy Slama, Lance Maurer, Jr., and Zane Maurer, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren: Gabriella Bowers, Mia Guild, Ariana Martinez, Lillyanna Martinez, Keyanna Martinez, Nikko Cariaga, Emilio Cariaga, Romeo Cariaga, King Slama, and Kaio Slama.

Maria's legacy is one of love, strength, and family. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated.

May She Rest In Peace.
