It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria DelaCruz on April 20, 2024. Born in the beautiful town of Patillas, Puerto Rico on May 12, 1963, Maria was a vibrant soul who left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Maria spent her life in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, after moving from Springfield, where she spread love and kindness through her work as a Nurses Aide at Heritage Hall in Agawam. She was a loving, loyal, thoughtful, and compassionate woman who lived her life passionately. Her love for salsa dancing was infectious, and she was known for making her residence laugh and dance, ensuring they experienced joy even in their darkest moments.
As her sister Angelina, I want to share that Maria was more than just a sister; she was a beacon of light and the heart of our family. Maria was never married, but she was blessed with three sons who were her world, Enrique, Miguel, and Joel. She was a fiercely loving mother and a doting grandmother to Janessa, Josiah, Jesiah, Kiya, Elijah, Mia-Bella, Miguel Jr, and Maria. Maria's love extended beyond her family to friends and even strangers. Her home was a haven to anyone in need, and she was known for her heart of gold, always ready to offer a plate of food to anyone who needed it.
Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Maria embodied this sentiment in the way she lived her life. She is survived by her mother Carmen, her siblings Angelina, Gloria, Carmen, Carmen, and Ramon, and her dear nieces and nephews. Maria was preceded in death by her father, Luis, and her niece, Alexandria.
The viewing for Maria will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Puerta Del Cielo® Funeral Home, 730 State Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, 01109. A second viewing will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, at the same location followed by her burial at Oak Grove Cemetery of Springfield Inc., 426 Bay Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, 01109.
