Maria Yniguez "Mary" Grijalva

Maria "Mary" Yniguez Grijalva, 105, of Bayard, NM, went home to be with the Lord and her cloud of witnesses on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Fort Bayard Medical Center, in Santa Clara, NM. She was born February 18, 1920 to her parents, Cesario and Francisca (De Leon) Yniguez in Tepatitlan de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico.

Mary came to the United States at the age of 4. Her mother died when Mary was just 11 years old and she was tasked with raising her three younger siblings. She married her husband, Mariano Grijalva and together they raised five children. Mary was a strong, spirited woman of great faith, known for her resilience and zest for life. Her lively personality brought joy to those around her. She found great joy in gardening, dancing to her favorite tunes, playing cards and cherishing time with her beloved family. She was a devoted, mother, grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her three daughters, Annie (Eloy) Gonzales, Sally (Sonny) Young and Betty Quintanar; her sixteen grandchildren; her numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Mariano Grijalva; her two sons, Mario Yniguez and Louie Grijalva; her three brothers, Felipe Yniguez, Savino Yniguez and Meme Yniguez; her sister, Lupe Yniguez.

Visitations will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 11:00-11:30am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (Bayard, NM), with the Holy Rosary commencing at 11:30am, recited by Clara Bustillos. The Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00pm, with Father Martin Okonkwo officiating. She will be laid to rest at Hanover Cemetery at 1:30pm. Pallbearers are Lez Gonzales, Isaac Gonzales, Gavin Gonzales, Milo Young, Meason Ybarra, Alex Quintanar, Eloy Gonzales and Raymond Ojinaga. Honorary Pallbearers are Barbara Rios, Carol Davis, Mary Maruffo, April Serna, Toby White.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Fort Bayard Medical Center for their compassionate care and support.
