Maria Kay Hopkins, born Maria Kay Gabriel on April 17, 1991, died in her home on September 6, 2024, in Tallahassee, Florida.
Maria, from Columbus, Ohio, graduated from Worthington Kilborne in 2010 and attended The Ohio State University. Maria earned her bachelor’s degree in 2014, graduating with honors.
Maria is survived by her husband Earl Hopkins and son Maximus; parents Melanie & Norm Gabriel and brother Andrew of Lithopolis, Ohio; and, Grandmother Darlene Place of Pickerington, Ohio. She was preceded in death by mother-in-law Mary Hopkins, grandparents Bernice & Norman Gabriel, and Grandfather Myron Place.
In 2015, Maria married Earl Hopkins. Together Maria and Earl embraced her love of equestrian and raised three off-the-track thoroughbred horses. Maria and Earl welcomed their son Max on December 10, 2020; a boy who loves adventure and brings joy to everyone. Maria was a devoted wife, mother and daughter bringing happiness and a contagious smile everywhere she went. She was a blessing to everyone who met her and her family will miss her adventurous spirit.
A memorial service for Maria is scheduled on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at. Shaw Davis Funeral Home, 34 West Second Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43201. It will be followed by a graveside burial ceremony at Union Cemetery, 2249 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43202 on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 9:15 a.m. Immediately following the graveside service there will be a celebration of life at the Shamrock Club, 60 W. Castle Road, Columbus, OH 43207.
