Maria Guadalupe (Melo) Lima
Maria Guadalupe (Melo) Lima, 90, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, December 18. She was the widow of the late Antonino G. Lima who passed away in 1996.
She was born on November 26, 1935 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal and was a daughter of the late Luis Melo and the late Gertrudes (Cunha) Melo. She was raised and educated in that area, was married and immigrated to the United States in 1967.
She settled in Lowell and worked at Paris Shoe for a number of years and later Wang Laboratories. She retired from Old Mother Hubbard in the late 1990's and enjoyed her retirement since then. She was a member of the Portuguese American Center (The Blues), the Holy Ghost Society, the Holy Rosary Sodality and St. Anthony Church. In addition to being very active in her parish and her faith she enjoyed crocheting. She was caring, kind and faithful in countless ways. Her family was the center of her world and she will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her daughter in law, Ligia Lima of Lowell, her 2 grandchildren, Jessica M. Lima of Billerica who was also her Goddaughter, Sarah Lima Nhem and her spouse, Savy Nhem of Lowell, her 8 great grandchildren, Jayden, Mario (MJ), Felicia, Sacario, Shylah, Elliana, Naliyaa and Naeceon and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was also the Mother of the late Mario C. Lima who passed away in 2010, and daughter in law of the late Antonio Lima and the late Amelia Lima, and sister in law of the the late Dionisia Espinola and the late Arlindo Espinola and the late Maria C. Rosa.
Family and friends are welcome to attend her calling hours on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 from 4 pm until 7 pm at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
You are also welcome to attend her funeral Mass which will be celebrated on Wednesday, at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m. followed by procession for burial at St. Patrick Cemetery.
