Obituary
Maria De Los Angeles Steele
December 6, 1946- October 9, 2025
Maria De Los Angeles Steele, 78, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Maria was born on December 6, 1946, in Nogales, Mexico, to Luciano and Vicenta (Estrada) Armenta. As a teenager, she and her family moved to San Diego, California, where she later graduated from high school. She began working in a cafeteria serving meals to members of the United States Navy, and it was there she met the love of her life, Richard Steele. The couple married in October 1967, and together they welcomed one son, Richard.
As the wife of a career military man, Maria had the opportunity to travel the world - even living in Italy for three years. A devoted and loving wife and mother, Maria dedicated much of her life to caring for her family.
Following her husband's retirement from the military, the family moved to Worland in the 1980s to be closer to his relatives. They put down roots and made Worland their permanent home.
Maria was known for her excellent cooking and especially loved preparing traditional Mexican meals for family and friends. Her faith was central to her life - she maintained a close relationship with God and found great comfort in reading her Bible. Maria had a kind heart and a sharp sense of humor. She was strong-willed, loved dining out, and enjoyed visiting with friends. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she took great joy in celebrating it to the fullest. She also loved watching birds - hummingbirds held a particularly special meaning for her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard; her parents; and her siblings: Jose Luis, Armando Armenta, Francisco Luciano, Raul Armenta, Hector Armenta, Belen Lomeli, Isabel Armenta, and Sandra Fernandez.
Maria is survived by her son, Richard (Anna) Steele of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Kathleen (Kyle) Elmore and Ryan Steele; great-grandchildren, Aria and Parker; and siblings, Lourdes (Michael) Gonzales, Irene (Felipe) Villa, Connie (Francisco) Zepeda, Martha (Stephen) Rienhart, Sara (James) Montague, and Reuben (Monica) Armenta.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Orona officiating. A public visitation will begin at 9:30 AM.
Memorial donations may be made to the Worland Senior Center. Please send contributions to P.O. Box 524, Worland, Wyoming 82401. Online condolences may be shared at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
