With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Maria Isabel Narvaez, on September 21, 2024, at the age of 70. Fittingly, on her last day, the last day of her favorite season, summer, she was surrounded by her family-a reflection of the joy and warmth she shared with all of us.
Maria, affectionately known as Magui, Titi, Mami, Mom, and Mama, was a radiant source of love and laughter. Her kitchen was the center of every home she created, where friends and family would gather to eat, share stories, dance, and sing along to classic salsa songs. Whether in the Bronx, Stamford, or West Hartford, she welcomed everyone into her home with open arms.
Maria worked tirelessly to ensure that her family had every opportunity possible. Her passion for helping others extended beyond her family, as she actively participated in community organizations, offering her time and skills to support her neighbors and friends.
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Ismael Narvaez and Ramona Rivera, Maria was one of nine siblings. She loved everything about Puerto Rico-the music, beaches, food, history-and had fond memories of the home her parents created. Moving to New York in 1970, she met her partner, Freddy Rolón Sr., in 1972.
She raised four children-Freddy, Wendy, Sasha, and Derrick-in a home filled with happiness and unconditional love. As 'Mama' to her grandchildren-Lio, Isaura, Sabrina, Darren, and Jacob-she showered them with affection, playing dress-up, feeding the squirrels and making art together, and spoiling them with candy and hot cocoa, creating memories they will always cherish.
Maria was the heart of our family, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void. She is survived by her mother, Ramona Rivera; her partner of 45 years, Freddy Rolón, Sr.; her children Freddy & Bronwyn Rolón, Wendy & Erik Bloch, Sasha Rolón & Sidonio Pereira, and Derrick Rolón; her siblings, Carmen Narvaez, Ramonita Albino, Lourdes Narvaez, and Ismael Narvaez, Jr.; and extended family, and friends. Maria is survived by her beloved rabbit, Timothy, who brought her joy every day.
A service to honor Maria's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, at Saint Maurice's Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, Connecticut.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Scleroderma Foundation, P.O. Box 411533, Boston, MA 02241-1533. Donations can also be made online at www.scleroderma.org/donate. The National Scleroderma Foundation was a cause dear to her heart.
