Maria Sablack

Maria Josephine (MaryJo) Sablack, 97, of Manistique, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility. She was born November 2, 1928, to Nicola and Anna Parente in Detroit, MI. She grew up surrounded by the love of her parents and the fun of a large extended family.

MaryJo graduated from Siena Heights College and moved to Manistique, where her parents had moved to purchase a tavern (Nick's Bar, later The Three Mile Supper Club) in the late 40's. Besides helping her parents with the bar, MaryJo began working at the State Savings Bank, retiring as Vice President in 1991.

In 1962, MaryJo married Paul Sablack. They shared many good years together, enjoying the home they built on Glenwood Drive and the cabin they built on the Manistique River. In her younger years MaryJo loved to go dancing and had lots of fun with "her girls" in the bowling league. She enjoyed crocheting and, in the winter, liked to cross country ski with her neighbor along Lake Michigan. Even in her later years, she was always up for a trip to the casino! She was a member of St. Francis de Sales church and also an active participant at Resurrection Catholic Church in Miramar Beach, FL during her winter stays in the area.

In Manistique, MaryJo is survived by her nephews Dennis (Debbie) St. Pierre and Tom St. Pierre, her late nephew Gilbert's wife, Rosemary Sablack, and her cousin Heidi (Doug) Troyer. She is further survived by many other nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul and her parents. The family is very grateful to the staff of the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility who provided such loving care for MaryJo in the past year.

A visitation will be held at St. Francis de Sales church in Manistique at 11 AM on Friday, January 9, 2026, with a mass immediately following at noon, Father Ben Paris officiating.
