Maria Mercedes "Meche" Sarmiento Rivera, 67, passed away peacefully at home on December 18th, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Lima, Peru to Luis Francisco Sarmiento and Mercedes Rivera, who predeceased her, as well as her loving step father Jorge Wong. She grew up in Miraflores, Peru, and from a young age she was known to be extroverted, wild, strong willed, and full of energy. She went to school in Barranco, where she met all her lifelong friends and her future husband. She grew up enjoying spending her days at the Barranco beaches, and later in life the Jersey shore. She loved sewing, knitting, baking and was known by her family and friends as an amazing cook, which is how she showed her love.
Meche is survived by her devoted husband, Luis Miguel Morales Arias. They shared life together for 53 years, and were married for 38 of those years. Also survived by her loving children, Luis Miguel J. Morales Sarmiento (Katherine), Allison Belen Mercedes Morales Perry (Everitte), and Mechita Zavala; Her adored grandchildren, Calliope Giulia Belen Morales Samiento, Atlas Nahuel R. Morales Samiento, Everitte Luis Perry, and Yamuna Arevalo; Her brothers, Luis Francisco Sarmiento, Carlos Sarmiento, Jorge Wong, and Christian Wong; And her soul sisters Eliana Bravo and Myrian Quintana.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Saturday December 28th, 2024 from 1-2pm at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals 212 Ark Road Mount Laurel NJ 08054. Her memorial service will follow at 2pm. The family has chosen to use Richardson's Flowers in Medford NJ for the floral arrangements, and those who wish to express sympathy through a donation can do so by donating to 'Sister Will You Help Me' at Cooper Hospital in her name.
