Maria Serda Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Riverside Funeral Home - Albuquerque on Nov. 25, 2025.
Maria Lydia Serda age 87, passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2025, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on December 23, 1937, in Cerro NM and spent her life surrounded by the love of her family.

Lydia was the youngest sibling of ten children to the parents of Guillermo and Lucinda Santistevan.

Lydia was a devoted and loving mother, whose kindness, strength, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her. She married the love of her life, Carlos Serda and together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage filled with dedication, partnership and unwavering love.

Lydia was a proud and lifelong Catholic and lived her faith with joyful conviction. She carried her faith not only in her words, but in the way she treated people with compassion, forgiveness and a heart open to everyone.

Those who knew Lydia remember her warm heart, her patience and the quiet grace with which she cared for those she loved. Her presence brought comfort, and her memory will continue to be a source of strength and inspiration to her family and friends.

Lydia had an extraordinary gift for humor. Lydia could deliver a witty remark with perfect timing. Lydia showed that joy is sacred too and that God's grace can live as much in a shared smile as in a quiet prayer.

Lydia is deeply missed by all who were blessed to be part of her life.

Today we remember not only the passing of a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, cousin and friend, but also the closing of a remarkable chapter in our family's story. Lydia was the last surviving sibling of ten -- my late mother's final companion from that generation and with her, an entire era of love, resilience and shared history now rests in our memories.

Her life carried the voices of all those she loved and through her, we remained connected to all of them. She embodied the strength, humor, and devotion that defined our family, and her presence reminded us of where we came from and who we are.

Though we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the countless gift of her life throughout so many years, the wisdom that she shared, and the love she gave so freely.

May her memory be a blessing, and may we honor her by carrying forward the values she lived - family, faith, love and kindness.

With deepest sympathy and enduring remembrance.
