It is with deep sorrow, yet heartfelt gratitude for a well lived life, that we announce the passing of Maria Angelita 'Hela' Torres, 83, who departed from this world Wednesday September 24, 2025, at her home in Odessa, TX, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born October 30,1942 in Edinburg, TX, to Josefa and Jesus Mendez and she married the late Mr. Carmen A. Torres in 1960, and they moved their family to Odessa, Tx in 1976. Hela was a devoted wife and amazing mother, raising 3 sons, 2 daughters and her grandson.

Truly, she was a mother to all. She was the strongest hug, the listening ear, the shoulder to cry on, the holder of all encouraging words. She adored her family, her siblings and her numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and all the greats. She doted on each and every person in her life. She was a faithful follower of Christ who was always ready to attend any church event, sermon or praise and worship. She enjoyed crocheting, always down for a trip to the lake for some fishing or an evening watching scary movies with the family. She loved all and all loved her.

'Hela' is preceded in death by her husband, Carmen A. Torres, daughter Hilda Torres, daughter "Lupe" Torres, son Ruben Torres and great grandchild Darwin Reyes. sisters Ramona Campos, Guadalupe DeLaRosa, and Frances "Kika" Patterson.

She is survived by her sons Michael Torres, and Anthony Torres & family, grandson whom she raised, Christophee Hill & family, as well as her 9 grandkids, 16 great grandchildren and new great, great granddaughter. Her brothers Juan Mendez & family and Jesus "Chuy" Mendez & family.

Also cherishing 'Hela’s' memory are numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who's hearts she stole with her loving care, smile and open arms that were always accepting all, with her love, guidance, encouragement and wisdom. Our family will not be the same without her but blessed to have had her for the time we were given.

Visitation has been set for Monday September 29, 2025, from 1pm-9pm with a Prayer service at 7pm at Martinez Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Pete Landa expressing words of comfort and encouragement.
