Marian Coleman Obituary

Marian Geraldine Fouts Coleman went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ on September 5, 2025. She was born November 15, 1930, to Ruby King Fouts and Rassie H. Fouts at their home in Smyrna, Georgia. She became a Christian and was baptized at Welcome Grove Baptist as a teenager. She married Richard Lee Coleman on December 25, 1946, and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage before he went to be with our Lord and Savior.

Marian's work career included positions at Prudential Insurance of Atlanta: First National Bank of Marietta; Cobb Board of Education Alternative School; 11 years in the medical department of Pactiv, Covington, Georgia; however, her greatest work was her sacrificial love and caring of her daughter Susan for 57 years as well as her husband during his last years with dementia.

Marian and Richard were active members of Locust Grove Baptist in Smyrna where they raised their 3 daughters, Teresa, Karen and Susan. With Susan needing care in a facility in the Conyers area, Marian and Richard moved to Oxford, Georgia in 1983 to be closer to Susan. While living in a camper on the land they purchased, they built their own home and became active members of Covington First Baptist Church. There Marian served as co-teacher in the ladies Joy Bearers Class, hemmed quilts for the Healing Hands Quilt Ministry, worked in the church library, and went every Saturday morning to prayer group lifting the church to the Lord. She counted the Murphy Gang as her treasured church family, enjoyed attending the Women's Ministry events such as the Gala, Widow to Widow luncheons, and Senior programs and trips. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, square dancing, cooking and gardening.

Marian leaves behind many beloved friends as well as her daughters Teresa (Allen) McGraw and Karen (David) Crowder; her six grandchildren: Matthew (Jennifer) McGraw, Megan (Kevin) Long, Richard (Amanda) McGraw, Jessica (Trevor) Kimberlin, Melanie McGraw, Coleman (Taylor) Crowder, 10 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Larry Dunn, and several nieces and nephews.

Marian will be remembered as "mama", "Grandmother", "Mamoo", and "Aunt Jerry" but most importantly she will be remembered as a child of God who taught her family about Jesus and taught them God's word. She modeled faith in God and devotion to family through caring hands, love and encouragement to pursue their God given path in life. She will live in our hearts and memories as we too strive to persevere throughout life as she did.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Covington at 11:00 being officiated by Pastor Cody McNutt; with visitation prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Covington Building Fund or the Murphy Gang Scholarship Fund.
