Marian Meerdink Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home on Jan. 24, 2024.
Marian Meerdink, 81, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.
A funeral service for Marian Meerdink will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City with Pastor Gary Burdick officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. before the service at the church on Saturday.
Marian Irene (Boofer) Meerdink, the daughter of Lloyd Marion and Helen Irene (Hazelwood) Boofer, was born on November 29, 1942, in Des Moines. She attended schools in Osage and graduated from Charles City High School in 1961. Marian met
Paul Meerdink at a church youth group bowling party. They were married on June 29, 1962. She was a devoted wife and lovingly took care of Paul in his final months until his passing on September 15, 2022.
Marian worked at Dairy Queen in Charles City for many years until her retirement. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Floyd County Medical Center and volunteered with MOPS childcare at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a long-standing member of Bethany Alliance Church where she was part of the women's coworker group and coordinated funeral luncheons for many years. Marian loved cooking and baking. She was a prize-winning pie maker and people loved her pies at any church potluck. She showed her ministry through food, whether that was helping to deliver for Meals on Wheels or providing meals to those who were going through a loss. Marian was always putting others first and would help anyone who was in need.
Marian enjoyed riding her bike and participating in adult softball and volleyball in her younger years and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She cherished her time with family, especially watching her grandchildren in their sporting events. She loved spending time outdoors working in her yard and took great pride in how it looked. Marian loved to travel with her family. Paul and Marian took many trips with Troy and Greg to the Chicago Auto Show and traveled to Florida with Tammy and Terry and their families. She was also able to make a special trip to Colorado to visit Greg and Nicole for her 81st birthday.
Marian is survived by her children: Tammela (Terry) Frascht and Troy (Kim Woolworth) Meerdink; grandchildren: Lynsie Kirksey, Greg (Nicole) Nehls, Brandi (Braden) Roberts, Chelsi (Nick) Podrazik and Brody Frascht; great-grandchildren: Addison Humphrey, Aubrey Kirksey, Kaden Kirksey, Rian Frascht and Stevie Podrazik; grand-dog, Jack; sisters: Evelyn (Jim) Johnson and Betty (Larry) Franke; brother-in-law, Earl (Barb) Meerdink; sister-in-law, Carol Brown; nieces and nephews: Christine Kennedy, Amy (Andy) Engberg, Joel (Carin) Meerdink, Elizabeth Meerdink, Melissa Solak, Gina (Scott) Phearman, Angela Sinnwell, Kelly (John) Powell, Shawna Davis, Steven Johnson, Mikel (Jamie) Johnson, Kim (Del) Nollmeyer, Jeff (Lisa) Franke, Lisa Franke; and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Meerdink; parents; sister-in-law, Janet Meerdink; and brother-in-law, Garry Brown.
