In Loving Memory of Marian Clarke Schenck, born on March 3, 1942, to Eliza Josephine Smith (Mama) and Thomas Leeroy (Papa) Clarke in Ogden, Utah, passed away peacefully on the 25th of January, 2024. She spent her formative years in her dream city of Taylor, Utah, just outside city limits. At the tender age of 16 months, Marian faced the challenges of being diagnosed with Polio, a battle that marked the beginning of a life filled with resilience and determination.
Despite undergoing four surgeries by the age of 10 and experiencing the isolation imposed by quarantine, Marian's spirit remained unbroken. During these difficult times, she drew inspiration from her parents, her father being a successful Barber and Farmer, and her mother, a cherished stay-at-home mom. Determined to embody the work ethic of her father and the love and attributes of her mother, Marian aspired to become a stay-at-home mom herself.
Marian's Sundays growing up were devoted to cherished family moments around the piano, where her love for music blossomed. Her passion for the piano began at the age of 6 and continued through a decade of lessons where she became an accomplished piano player. She joined a singing group, sharing her talents in local church wards. Active in her local singles ward within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marian's path intersected with Dee Schenck at a single adult dance. Their whirlwind romance led to marriage and a sealed commitment for time and all eternity as devoted members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
A stalwart member of the Church, Marian served in various callings, including primary teacher, ward organist, young women's teacher, relief society teacher, relief society president, and stake young women's presidency. She fulfilled her callings with determination and persistence, but her greatest calling, in her eyes, was being a mother.
As her family began, she demonstrated the qualities that were imprinted on her from childhood, which were sacrifice, love, and perseverance. Struggling with financial constraints, she would spend endless nights preserving fruits and vegetables, sewing clothing, and mending every tear that appeared to ensure her family's needs were met. All the money that she could save was meant for the kids and would go towards trips, parties, or daily excursions she would plan.
Her roles as a Mom, Grandma, and Friend took precedence over all else. Marian's influence was immeasurable, leaving a legacy of smiles, nicknames, and attentive listening. Her thoughtfulness and love were her most outstanding attributes.
Beyond her family, Marian actively supported her loved ones in all their endeavors, whether sports, dances, field trips, races, competitions, or concerts. A dedicated farmer and gardener, her efforts created lasting memories for her children.
Marian's love for traditions and familial bonds extended to camping trips and gatherings at Bear Lake and Island Park, creating enduring connections. Her organized events, from pumpkin carving to Christmas caroling, were cherished moments that strengthened the familial bonds she held so dear.
In her later years, Marian embraced newfound hobbies, excelling in oil painting and pottery. As Dee transitioned into retirement, they explored different parts of the United States, creating cherished memories in Nashville, California, and Hawaii.
Marian's legacy is of kindness, unwavering faith, and profound love for her family and country. She leaves behind a family united by her teachings, traditions, and enduring affection. As she wished, let us remember Marian as a devoted follower of Christ, a loving Mother, Grandmother, Friend, and a proud and patriotic American.
Marian's dream of a big family began in September 1965; Todd (Julie) Schenck, Trevor (Jodi) Schenck, Heather (Joe) Humphrey's, Tyler (Kelli) Schenck, Krystal (Jed) Davis, Summer (BJ) Hogge, Harmony (Jared) Heath, Traig (Ashley) Schenck, Melody (Adam) Stuart, Taylor (Julie) Schenck, and 40 grandkids, and 10 great-grandkids and counting. After 61 years of marriage to Dee, their love and legacy continues on and will remain throughout time and all eternity.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 31st, 2024, 5:30-8:00 p.m. at the Taylor 2nd Ward, 2167 So. 4300 West and also on Thursday, February 1st from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to funeral services, at 11:00 a.m. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
