Marianne Connolly

Marianne Connolly, 91, of Carteret passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Complete Care at Clark.
Born in Elizabeth, Marianne was a lifelong resident of Carteret and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Perth Amboy. She went on to attend Caldwell College where she received her Bachelor of English Education degree in 1953. That same year, Marianne began teaching at St. Joseph School in Carteret, always proud to be the school's first lay teacher. Marianne was a devoted and lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Carteret, where she recently wrote the "History of the Parish" book for the parish's 100th anniversary celebration. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Altar Rosary Society, Carteret Seniors, St. Joseph School PTA, and a local Red Hats chapter. She wasan RCIA teacher, a Carteret democratic committeewoman, volunteered in the Ozanam Family Shelter's soup kitchen and as an ESL teacher through her local library. Marianne was a family oriented and generous woman who will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Marianne was predeceased by her husband Thomas Connolly in 2006, her son John Connolly in 2016, as well as her three siblings, John Kennedy, Cormac Kennedy and Clare Bachman. Surviving are her children, Mary Richter with her husband Samuel, Tom Connolly with his wife Beth, Kate Dorcellus with her husband Carmelot,and Pat Connolly with his wife Meg; grandchildren, Gregory Richter, Karen Munar, Matt Connolly, Caroline Connolly, Sean Dorcellus, Esme Dorcellus, Maitee Benjamin and Maell Benjamin; along with three great grandchildren, Nolan Munar, Gloria Richter and Ramona Connolly.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from CHUBENKO FUNERAL HOME, 625 Port Reading Avenue, Port Reading followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Carteret. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marianne may be made to St. Joseph School, 865 Roosevelt Avenue, Carteret, NJ 07008.
