Marie Sutton Andis, 75, of Carmel passed away November 23, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family after a twenty-seven year, well fought battle against breast cancer. She was born December 6, 1947, in Brazil, Indiana. Her fondest childhood memories were from time spent with her beloved grandparents, Kathleen and Melvin Pell. She met John Andis while she was attending St. Anthony’s School of Nursing and John was attending Rose-Hulman. The two married after graduation on July 20, 1968, and were blessed with four daughters.
Marie was a devoted wife, mom, grandma and friend and the consummate caretaker. She was a Registered Nurse and enjoyed caring for her patients, but the job she treasured the most was raising her daughters. She was immensely dedicated to her family. She was a great cook and showed her love with food. Everyone was always welcomed to join the family dinners. Her children looked to her for guidance and support and knew they could always count on her whether it meant driving kids to practice or volunteering at their school. Once her children were grown, she seamlessly transitioned into being Grandma. Her grandkids were the joy of her life, and she loved spending time with them. She rarely missed a game or performance. She cared deeply for her friends and neighbors and was quick to offer help in times of need. She was blessed with wonderful friendships, many of 50 years or more, and was always up for a lunch date. Marie was an avid collector, especially of antique clothing buttons. She was a long-time member of Carmel United Methodist Church, Indiana State Button Society, National Button Society and Tri Kappa Service Sorority.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, John Andis; three daughters, Susan (Whitey) Herzog, Diane Turvy, and Missy (Jason) Brauer; seven grandchildren, Christy and Kellie Herzog, Jack and Andrew Turvy, Will, Trent and Blake Brauer; and a brother, John (Cathy) Sutton. She was preceded in passing by her daughter, Christy Andis, and son-in-law, Barry Turvy.
We will miss her dearly but are comforted knowing she is now reunited with Christy.
