Marie Bates Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Young Funeral Home on Feb. 7, 2026.
Ms. Susan Marie Bates, 64, of Lobelville, passed away Thursday February 5, 2026. She was born May 31, 1961, to the late Cecil "Buddy" Bates and LouNell "Nell" Nutt Bates. She was a loving daughter, mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma, sister, aunt and friend to everyone.

She had a long line of accomplishments. She obtained her paralegal license, was a Home Interior consultant and worked at Bates Fabricating building parts. But the job she loved the most was was driving an 18 Wheeler. She had so many stories to share about driving across the county and all the sights she was able to see.

Later in life, her health kept her from continuing to live that dream, but she never gave up on life. Marie was an avid collector and loved to craft, having bedazzled every cup and jar she brought home. There's nothing she could not turn into a masterpiece.

She was a shoot from the hip honest woman, who lived her life the best way she could. By loving her family and her fur babies with all she had.

In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her grandparents Pete and Bonnie May Bates, Ivan and Georgia Nutt, her brother Cecil Lee Bates, granddaughter Mayghen Myers, nephew Warren Bates and brother-in-law Kenny Rogers.

Survivors include her 3 children Tanessia (Chad) Myers, Stephine (Chad) Bledsoe and Nick (Latisha) Bates, 8 grandchildren Julie (Troy) Guy, Hayley (Jaimen) Thomas, Jonathan "Tyler" (Samantha) Mathis, Rachel Marie (Alex) Broadway, Camden (Icelynn) Bledsoe, Joshua (Zailey) Bledsoe, Eric Moore and Logan Bates, 13 great-grandchildren Dawson, Delilah, Adalyn, Rosie, Moxon, Marley, Grayson, Kensley, Claire, Raelyn, Brantley, Everett and baby Luke, a brother Jackie (Donna) Bates, 2 sisters Trina Rogers and LouAnn Bates, nieces and nephews Chelsea (Chris) Reed, BJ (Melissa) Warren, Kendon Rogers, Tasha (Dustin Riddles) Bates and CJ Qualls, uncle Thomas Bates and aunts Carolyn, Nancy (Lewis), Shirley (Gary) and Donna (Roger) , too many cousins to count and many friends.
