Marie J. Celeste

Marie J. (Gomes) Celeste, born in Brooklyn, NY on September 25, 1923, passed away on February 19, 2026. At 102 years of age, Marie lived through a century of extraordinary change with grace, resilience, and quiet strength. She was predeceased in death by her husband Vincent J. Celeste with whom she shared 69 years of marriage.

Marie leaves behind a growing family spanning four generations who will forever cherish her laughter and quiet strength. She was a devoted mother to James Celeste (deceased) and his wife Tammy, Jean, Marie, and Philip, cherished grandmother to Autumn, Brianna, Helena, Philip Jr., Isabel, Emily, Oliver Celeste, Jennifer, William Jr., and Celeste Gregorio, Sofia and Christian Celeste Tate, loving great-grandmother to Vivianna, Angie, and Philip, Emma and James Fox, Paige Nicole Celeste Muller and Livia Marie Celeste Muller.

The first of three children, Marie was predeceased by her beloved brother John Gomes (deceased) and sister Isabelle Schmitt (deceased). She was formerly of East Boston, and Stoneham Massachusetts and then Kissimmee, Florida. Even while living in Florida, she remained an avid Red Sox fan and loved working difficult Sudoku puzzles or engaging in games of Phase 10, Uno, or dominoes with friends and family.

Marie cherished her family and took great pride in their accomplishments. She was fun loving, kind and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her century of love leaves a legacy that will continue for generations.

Though we will miss her deeply, we celebrate a life well-lived by gathering on Monday, March 2nd, from 4:00-8:00 pm in Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach Street, Revere, and again on Tuesday morning for a Funeral Service to be celebrated in her honor in the funeral home at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
