Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels - Waltham on Mar. 9, 2024.
Marie A. (Girolamo) Clement of Plymouth, formerly of Lexington and Waltham, passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2024 at the age of 75.
Marie was born on July 27, 1948 in Waltham. She was the daughter of the late Allessandro (Sam) and Frances (DiMurro) Girolamo.
Marie graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waltham in 1966, and went on to receive her BA from Newton College of the Sacred Heart, and her MA from Framingham State University. Throughout her career, Marie dedicated her efforts to helping and supporting adults with intellectual disabilities and their families. She worked tirelessly guiding her clients to become productive members of their communities by finding them suitable employment and safe residential housing. She worked for over twenty-one years as a DDS Human Service Coordinator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until she retired. She was very serious about her job and continually advocated for more assistance and funding to be given to intellectually challenged individuals so they might lead more independent lives.
Marie had many hobbies. In her spare time, she would knit, do needlepoint, and create beautiful crewel wall-hangings. She loved music and had an extensive record collection. An enthusiastic reader of both fiction and nonfiction books, she liked attending concerts and plays, as well as visiting all types of museums. Marie was an avid Celtics and Red Sox fan, seldom missing their games on TV. Her other TV passion was watching game shows, especially Jeopardy. She loved learning about all sorts of topics and relished in the thrill of the challenge. Thus, when playing trivia games against her family and friends, she was quite difficult to beat.
Marie's most noteworthy skills, however, took place in the kitchen. She was a great cook. Her dinners were always delicious, but she will especially be remembered for her numerous containers of delectable Christmas cookies and her scrumptious ricotta pies which she made every year for both family and friends. After becoming ill, she patiently guided her husband Tom in the preparation of many of her favorite culinary dishes.
Most importantly, Marie's favorite pastimes included spending time with her husband, her family, especially her grandchildren, and her close friends. She never forgot birthdays, anniversaries, or other special dates important to the people she loved. As a proud grandmother, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren excel in school and extra-curricular activities, like sports and dancing, and watched many of them become successful, independent adults.
Predeceased by her brother William (Bill) Girolamo.
Marie is survived by her devoted and adoring husband of fifty-one years, Thomas (Tom) Clement, her loving children, Delilah Clement of Lexington MA, and Trevor Clement and his wife Monica Linden of Franklin MA. In addition, she is survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, her beloved sister Rosanne Pecci of Waltham, and her brother Al Girolamo and his wife Rosemarie of Norfolk MA. She also leaves to cherish her loving memory, numerous nieces, nephews, their children and many devoted friends.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to gather and remember the love and laughter Marie shared during the Visiting Hours on Thursday March 14th from 10 am – 12 pm. A Memorial Service to celebrate Marie's life will begin at noon in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels located, 773 Moody Street, Waltham. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham.
