Charlene Clement Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 21, 2025.
Charlene Ann Clement, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at the age of 89.

Born on June 16, 1936, in Okeene, Oklahoma, Charlene was the daughter of Charles A. Laubach Jr. and Hannah (Tautfest) Laubach. She grew up on the family farm, where the values of hard work, faith and service to others were instilled in her from an early age.

A gifted student, Charlene graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class in 1954. Her calling to care for others led her to pursue nursing and in 1957 she graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Nursing. That same year, in March, she met the love of her life, Albert B. Clement Jr., at University Hospital. The two were married on October 6, 1957, beginning a partnership of devotion and love that lasted an extraordinary 67 years.

Charlene dedicated more than 60 years of her life to nursing, touching countless lives with her skill, compassion and gentle presence. In her later years, she continued to serve as a public health nurse, faithfully administering vaccines each fall during influenza season. She cherished these clinics, not only for the care she gave, but for the friendships she developed and the chance to catch up with members of her community year after year.

Faith and music were also central to Charlene's life. She served as the Junior Choir Director at Britton United Methodist Church, first for her children and later for her grandchildren. Her leadership brought music and joy to many young voices and the Christmas Cantatas she directed in the 1990s always packed the sanctuary. Every detail-from the program to the costumes, which she designed and hand-made herself-reflected her creativity, energy and devotion.

Family was the heart of Charlene's life. A proud and active mother, she could often be found coaching her daughters' softball and basketball teams or running the concession stand at Northeast High School. She poured the same energy and love into her role as a grandmother, caring deeply for her five grandchildren-and for the many others who affectionately called her "Grandma" and were loved as her own.

Charlene's life was marked by faith, service and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched, both within her family and throughout her community.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert; her parents, Charles and Hannah; her brothers, Marvin and Donald; her sisters, Romilda Haworth and Velma Gene Miles; and her daughter-in-law, Erica Clement.

Charlene is survived by her four children: Connie Holt (Brian) of Edmond, Susan Haworth of Oklahoma City, Linda Clement of Oklahoma City and Dennis Clement of Edmond. She is also survived by her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy.

A service celebrating Charlene's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at St. Luke's Methodist Church, 222 N.W. 15th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73103.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Charlene's honor to the Oklahoma Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Charlene lived her life with grace, compassion and resilience. Her family finds comfort knowing that her spirit will continue to inspire and guide them, just as it has for nearly nine decades.
