Marie S. (Fleck-Schaefer) Friedman of Fort Branch passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023 in Evansville. Marie was born on January 14, 1930 in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Joseph and Mary Louise (Carey) Fleck who preceded her along with husbands Marcellus J. Schaefer and Robert L. Friedman. Marie was also preceded in death by brothers, Michael Fleck, Bernard Fleck, sister, Cecelia Crane; children, Diann L. Besing, Mark A. Schaefer; and grandchild, Derek Schaefer.
Marie was a housewife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great grandmother, caregiver, farmer, and bookkeeper throughout her adult life and was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt, Indiana.
Marie enjoyed traveling and going fishing in her leisure time and loved to quilt, cook, and bake. She volunteered at St. James' quilt club and baked for its fish fries and socials. Marie was a member of Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed family and family gatherings more than anything.
Marie is survived by children Michael (Theresa) Schaefer, Sheridan, IN, Edwin (Gladys) Schaefer, Evansville, IN, Elaine (Gerald) Happe, Evansville, IN, Keith (Marcella) Schaefer, Bruceville, IN, Debbie (Bobby) Stephens, Haubstadt, IN, Theresa Troutman, Princeton, IN; 13 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church with Father Kenneth Betz and Father John Boeglin officiating. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 3 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Wade Funeral Home in Haubstadt with a Rosary service beginning at 1:30 PM.
Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until Mass time Thursday, May 4 at St. James Catholic Church.
The family would like to thank the staff and management of Holiday Village and Heritage Hospice along with her many friends through her illness and life's journey.
