The Funeral Service for Marie Florence Melvin, age 79, of Enid, will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Crosspoint Church, with Jerred Unruh officiating. Burial will follow in the Enid Mennonite Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 6 to 7 p.m. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Marie was born on September 24, 1945, in Kingfisher, OK, to Herbert and Gladys (Ross) Tinder, and passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Enid. Marie grew up on a farm around Lomega, OK, and moved to Enid around middle school. She attended Emerson Jr. High and Enid High School and graduated in 1963.

Marie enjoyed it when her older siblings had children, and she became Aunt Re. She was determined to be everyone's favorite aunt, and this determination carried on into her Great Aunt Re era.

Marie's favorite job in high school was at Downs Pharmacy as a soda jerk, where she worked with cousin Eva Goeringer. Marie introduced Jackie and Becky to cherry limeades and lime rickey's at a young age. She enjoyed playing basketball and baseball with her brothers and spending time with her sisters, playing dominos or cards. When all the siblings were together, it was common for pranks to occur, usually started by Marie.

Marie married Garry Melvin in Enid on April 2, 1966. To this union, they had two daughters, Jackie Conrady and Becky Racer. They enjoyed going out with friends on Friday nights, playing cards, and eating pizza or Mexican food, particularly Roberto's. They also enjoyed going out with "the gang" from church.

Marie was a servant at heart. She was an administrative assistant at Phillips University and Autry Vo Tech for over thirty years. She loved assisting with AWANAS as a teacher and, most recently, cooking and providing meals for the students. She was actively involved at Crosspoint Church, serving in any way possible. Many friendships were established during this time.

Marie was blessed with three grandsons, Grant Conrady, Corbin Conrady, and Colton Racer. She enjoyed playing tag with her grandchildren, usually as they were about to leave her home. This perpetual game has been going on for twenty-three years. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she was an awesome grandma.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Gladys Tinder; brothers, James and Jack Tinder; two sisters-in-law, Linda Tinder, and Charlene Tinder; and one brother-in-law, Dwayne Sterling. She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Garry, of the home; two daughters, Jackie (Marc) Conrady of Wichita, KS, Becky (Bret) Racer of Hennessey, OK; grandchildren, Grant and Corbin Conrady, and Colton Racer; siblings, Lois Sterling, Dean Tinder, and Margaret Pierson, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in Marie's name can be made to Crosspoint Church or the NOC Foundation First Generation Scholarship, with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.

Condolences can be made, memories can be shared, and services can be viewed online at www.ladusauevans.com.
