Marie Anule Narcisse was born on September 16, 1959, in Gonaïves, Haiti, the youngest of nine children and the last daughter of Francois Frederic Narcisse and Philomene Rosita Narcisse. The Narcisse family lived just outside the city, where they worked as farmers. Her mother, Philomene, often traveled to nearby and distant towns to sell the family's produce at local markets.
Anule completed her high school education in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and with the support and encouragement of her older siblings, she immigrated to the United States in 1984. She settled in Neptune Township, New Jersey, where she began the next chapters of her life with hope and determination.
In 1989, Anule began work as a steelworker at a factory. When the company later relocated to Texas, she saw it not as a setback but as an opportunity. She made the bold decision to transition into the healthcare field, a profession that allowed her to compassionately care for others. For over 25 years, Anule served with dedication as a Certified Home Health Aide and a Certified Nurse's Assistant at the Visiting Nurse Association, Sunrise Senior Living, Sunnyside Manor, and Wellington Estates Assisted Living Community. Her patients regarded her as more than just a caregiver – she was family. They felt truly comforted in her care. She was adored and had a gift for preserving her patient's dignity, no matter their condition. She was a blessing, not only in the eyes of her patients, but in the eyes of her coworkers. Anule built a fulfilling and impactful career, continuing her work until taking medical leave in 2023 and officially retiring in 2024.
Her proudest moment in life was when she gave birth to her son, Neil, on June 14, 1994. Becoming a mother gave her purpose, and though she faced the path of single motherhood with its fair share of challenges, she embraced it with grace and focus. She filled their home with love and personality. She would call out "Neil!" with that familiar tone only a mother could have; equal parts exasperation and affection. But just as quickly, she would adorn him with hugs and kisses. She cooked traditional Haitian meals that became his favorites, dishes he will always remember for how they made him feel. When he was feeling ill, she was right there with a warm cup of tea. She gave him wisdom through heartfelt conversations about life, sharing the kind of insight only a devoted mother could. Everything she did was with him in mind. She supported Neil in all his ideas and dreams, encouraging him to believe in his talents. One of her most impactful roles was cheering him on as he pursued his entrepreneurial vision in starting his Shore Sauce hot sauce brand. To him, she was not just a parent but a hero, his source of wisdom, protection, and unconditional love. Her love for her son was visible and constant, a true testament to being an extraordinary mother.
Anule's life was a testament to joy, resilience, and a deep love for fun. She brought those qualities into every moment, especially during the many occasions she spent with family and friends. She found peace in gardening, a passion she shared with her siblings. With a "green thumb," she nurtured vibrant blooms that brought color and life to her home. The variety of flowers in front of her home remains as evidence of her care, patience, and love of nature. On Sundays, the sound of Tropicana, her favorite Haitian orchestra band, filled the house. Their lively rhythms played as she sang along and danced with a carefree spirit. It was in those moments she radiated happiness with a sense of pride in her culture and heritage. Anule also became a traveler at heart – a woman who had a zeal for life. She found contentment in going on vacations; she was particularly fond of sailing on cruises.
Unexpectedly, in 2021, she was diagnosed with thymoma, a rare cancer of the thymus gland. Even amid her diagnosis, she chose adventure, taking what would be her final cruise in 2023, a heartfelt journey alongside her sister and close friends. She was determined to soak in the beauty of the world and its sunsets on the open sea one last time. With faith and bravery, she underwent chemotherapy treatments in 2024. Anule's courage and determination carried her through her toughest days. Her unwavering spirit was an inspiration to all around her. Anule passed away peacefully at her home on May 30, 2025, at the age of 65, with her immediate family by her side.
Anule will be most remembered for the heart she gave so freely in every role she had. As a mother, she was a constant source of love, support, and pride – always present and forever her son's biggest champion. As the youngest sibling, she was a pillar within the family and did not hesitate to be a support for her older brothers & sisters – never seeking recognition, only acting from love. To her nieces and nephews, she was a voice of reason, a guide full of wisdom, life lessons, and fierce with a sense of humor that brought light and ease. She was the kind of friend everyone hopes to have - dependable, uplifting, always ready with a listening ear, and celebrating their milestones as if they were her own. To her neighbors, she was a warm and welcoming presence. Among her co-workers, she made the workday brighter and was a shining example of care that came from deep within.
Her legacy is one of strength, selflessness, and unwavering kindness. Anule had faith in the resurrection that is promised in God's word. She passed with peace in her heart and the hope of being reunited one day with her beloved family and friends. She will be missed and beautifully remembered beyond what could ever be expressed in words.
