Marie Quist Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Family Funeral Home - Arco on Mar. 29, 2024.
Marie Knighton Quist, age 100, passed away March 26, 2024, at Clarkston Utah, concluding a
long life as a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.
Born August 22, 1923, on their farm just south of Moore Idaho, to James Knighton and Harriet
Tovey Knighton. She married Blaine Aaron Quist, August 3, 1951 in the Logan Utah temple.
Blaine died November 15, 1966.
Her early years were spent in Moore. There were 12 children in her family, all of her siblings
preceded her in death. Marie attended Ricks College, taught school in Moore, served a mission
for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Northwestern States, and worked for
the Genealogical Society of Utah, all before she married Blaine and returned to the Lost River
valley.
Marie and Blaine settled on the Quist farm southeast of Arco, where she lived for the next 67
years. She raised her children after Blaine's death and lived there as a widow until she moved
to live with her daughter, at age 95.
Marie spent many many hours seeking to bless her extended family. She almost single
handedly carried on a family letter with her siblings for over thirty years. Encouraging each to
write to her and then she would type up all of the letters, go to town and make copies to send to
everyone who wanted one. She later got a computer mainly to make it easier to type and print
the letter and finally was even sending them by email to most, but kept sending printed copies to
her brothers or sisters who preferred to get an actual letter..
Marie became an expert at family history research. She also spent much of her later years
researching and documenting the family tree that her parents had worked so hard to advance.
She also worked with other family members to put together books of histories and memories of
her parents and grandparents so that they could be had by future generations.
Marie also loved to make quilts, which she would carefully make to give to her children,
grandchildren and others.
She was a faithful member of the Church or Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints her entire life and
served in many callings. At the time of her death, Marie was living with her daughter June in
Clarkston Utah.
Marie was also preceded in death by one Son, Gordon Leland Quist who died at age 12. She is
survived by six children, June (Lloyd) Bytheway, Clarkston, Utah; Marvin (LouAnn) Quist;
Meridian, Idaho; Alton (Lauri) Quist, Chandler, Arizona; James (Cathy) Quist, Layton, Utah;
Hugh (Teresa) Quist, Boise, Idaho; Darrell (Donnell) Quist, Boise, Idaho. Also survived by 33
grandchildren and 87 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 13, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at the Arco Ward chapel. A
viewing will be held prior to the services from 12:00 noon. Interment at Hillcrest cemetery, Arco
Idaho.
