Obituary of Marie F. Schopp
Marie Finks Schopp, Irondequoit. Died Sunday, September 28 at peace with her God at age 86. Predeceased by her beloved parents Perry and Francis, her brother P. David Finks, sisters Theresa Klem and Elizabeth Thornton. Survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, John "Jack" Schopp, dear siblings Anthony (Kathie) Finks, Margaret Miller, Jerry (Judy Rinebold) Finks, Margaret Boehme, and Jennifer (Jim) Exton, her loved children Tony (Svieta) Schopp, Jackie (John) Mooney, and Susie Hannan. Also survived by cherished grandchildren Alida, Liam, and Clara Mooney and Michael and Helen Hannan, many nieces and nephews, dear friends. She was blessed to live her last years at St Ann's Home on Portland Ave where she had worked for years as a dedicated Nurse Manager on the 7 th Floor. She was cared for dearly by dedicated, compassionate, fun-loving people, some of whom were her colleagues years ago. A survivor of childhood polio, she was an advocate of healthcare for everyone and accessibility and equality in all forms. She loved a big family gathering at her house or would bring a nice dish to pass and a bottle of Chardonay anywhere she was invited. She enjoyed music of all kinds, and it brought her great joy to sing along to her many favorites like Steely Dan and Gladys Knight, or choral music back in her days with Irondequoit Chorale. Her best friend forever was her sister Peg Miller, and they shared life's good times and bad over many cups of tea. She was a great mom to Tony, Jackie, and Susie, and always celebrated who they wanted to be. Of all her many gifts in this life, her greatest was her loving husband Jack who became her dedicated caregiver and advocate. His countless acts of service and devotion enriched her life and serve as an example to all.
Her family will receive friends Friday, October 17 from 4-6pm at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home (570 Kings Highway So.). Her funeral mass will be at St. Kateri at St. Margaret Mary on October 18 at 11 am. Internment at Irondequoit Cemetery immediately after. Donations in lieu of flowers in Marie's memory may be made to The St. Ann's Foundation, Employee Scholarship Fund, 1500 Portland Avenue 14621.
