SIGOURNEY-Marie Snakenberg, age 90, of Sigourney, died Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.
Marie was born May 16, 1933, in South English, the daughter of Byron and Dorothy (Hervey) Hahn and graduated from English Valleys High School in 1950. On March 22, 1953, she married Melbourne Snakenberg at her parents’ home. The couple lived and farmed in Keokuk County and Marie also was a custodian at the University of Iowa for eight years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church and enjoyed her family and friends, and memories around her kitchen table.
Survivors include three sons: David (Jeri) Snakenberg of Sioux City, John (Pam) Snakenberg of Sigourney and George (Kitty) Snakenberg of Ollie; three grandsons: Schuyler (Angela) Snakenberg of Wellman, Seth Snakenberg of Sioux City and Justin (Shawna) Snakenberg of Gilroy, California; four great grandchildren and two sisters: Linda Gilliland of Sigourney and Mary Ann (Lloyd) Trimpe of Conroy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Mel; granddaughter: Whitney Snakenberg and three brothers: Wayne, Marvin and Earl Hahn.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church, with Rev. Cathy Nutting officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Essence of Life Hospice. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Marie and her family. Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
