Marietta Marie Sauve

Our beloved mother, grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 30, 2024, at the age of 100. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth and grace.
Marrietta was born in Terrebonne, MN, to Edward and Bertha St. Yves. Her childhood was filled with many happy memories growing up with nine brothers and six sisters on their family farm. She graduated from Lafayette High School as a part of their teacher training program. She moved west to Vancouver where she began teaching elementary students at Sisters of Providence Academy. She then married her husband Rene and began raising her family. Her Catholic faith guided her to teach at Our Lady of Lourdes and finally, at St. Joseph, for a total of thirty three years. She earned her BA and Masters of Teaching at The University of Portland. Marrietta was a well respected teacher and known for the relationships she built with students and families.
After retirement, Marrietta loved being a grandmother the most. Spending time with her large extended family was a joy and she always had a pot of chicken and dumplings on the stove to share. She enjoyed exercising at Club Oxford, traveling, reading and watching professional basketball. However, she found her talent for sewing and made many beautiful aprons which she sold at local holiday bazaars for over twenty years.
Marrietta joins her husband, Rene J, who passed away in December 2004. She is survived by son Raymond (Dawnelle) of Sacramento, California and daughter Renee (Michael) Fern of Ridgefield, WA. She was blessed with two grandchildren: Joel Fern of Vancouver, WA and Lauren (Max) Escola of Ridgefield, WA. She has many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Mass and service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Please join the family for hospitality following the service.
