Oakdale - Mariette Tynan Larkin, of Oakdale, CT, passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2025, with her loving partner, James Baillargeon, by her side after spending a beautiful day surrounded by those she held dearest. She was 68 years old.
Born on January 19, 1957, to Robert and Mildred (Zele) Tynan, Mariette was the youngest of six children and grew up in the close-knit neighborhood of Ridgewood Park in Waterford, CT. She graduated from Waterford High School in 1975 and, in 1977, married William Larkin. Together, they raised two children, Kevin and Mindy, building a life rooted in love and devotion. Though they later went their separate ways, Mariette's journey led her to James Bailargeon, with whom she shared over 15 years of love and companionship.
Mariette spent much of her career in the Central Service department of a local hospital, where her work ethic, warmth, and sharp sense of humor earned her not just respect, but lasting friendships. Her colleagues became an extension of her family, and her quiet dedication left a lasting impact on those around her.
A woman of deep faith, Mariette lived her life guided by her love for Jesus and a steadfast belief in the good. She was known for her gentle spirit and fierce loyalty. She had a special affection for animals-especially her dogs-and found peace in tending to her plants and yard year-round, always nurturing life with the same care she gave to the people she loved.
Mariette's proudest accomplishments were rooted in motherhood and family. She worked the third shift for most of Kevin and Mindy's childhood so she could be fully present for them. Being "Gramma" to Nicholas, Briana, Emma, and Lillianna was the greatest joy of her life-a close second only to being a mother. She embraced every role with open arms and an open heart.
To her siblings, she wasn't just a sister-she was a best friend. The bond they shared was deep, enduring, and filled with laughter. Her many nieces and nephews affectionately called her "Auntie Cupcake," a name that perfectly captured her sweet nature and playful spirit.
Mariette was also deeply patriotic, always engaged with the world around her. She had a passion for discussing current events and was never shy about sharing her thoughtful-often spirited-theories on the world's happenings. Conversations with her were never dull and often unforgettable.
Predeceased by her parents, Mariette leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith. She is survived by her loving companion, James Baillargeon, her children, Kevin and Mindy Larkin, her daughter-in-law Brandi, her beloved grandchildren Nicholas, Briana, and Emma Larkin, and Lillianna LaPointe. She is also survived by her siblings Carol Janovic, Bob Tynan, Kathy Cochran, Tom Tynan (Stacy), and Jim Tynan (Maria Esther), along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family, and friends-each of whom was touched by her kindness, her laughter, and her light. Mariette also leaves behind her cherished dog, Pugsley.
Visiting hours will be held in her honor at Woyasz & Sons Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Rd,
Uncasville, CT, on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, burial will follow on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 3pm at Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich, CT.
Mariette will be remembered for the way she loved-deeply, freely, and without reservation-and for a life that, while quiet in nature, left a loud and lasting imprint on the hearts of many.
