Marilyn (Mickey) Ella Brookes (nee Senior) born February 2, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania peacefully passed away March 25, 2022 in Venice, Florida. She was devoted to her family.
Marilyn grew up and attended her early educational years, in Pennsylvania, Indiana, California, Panama, and Medellin, Colombia before returning to her home state and graduating from Frankfort High School in Philadelphia, PA. Marilyn attended Gettysburg College and earned Bachelors of Science Degree in Education. She was a member of Beta Pi and it was in college where she met her husband Robert (Bob) Kincaid Brookes a WWII US Army Air Corp Combat Veteran, who was awarded a Purple Heart, along with The Prisoner of War of Medal. Robert was from Princeton, New Jersey.
She went on to earn her Masters of Education from Temple University. For 30 plus years she worked for both Haddon Heights and Haddon Township High School where she taught Spanish, became the Department Head, and concluding as Assistant Principal. Upon retirement she applied and was accepted in the US Peace Corps. She was a teacher Trainer assigned to the Fiji Island Suva for the Fiji College of Advanced Education.
After completing her Peace Corp position, she enjoyed traveling the world, and was always up and ready for any adventure. To the very end she was completely aware and opinionated of current affairs, she enjoyed ending her by day reading a good book with a glass of red wine, and piece of chocolate.
She is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Brookes) Williams (Michael Paul) Houston, Texas, son David S. Brookes (Victoria Frances) of Cardiff by the Sea, California, daughter Melissa Brookes of Venice, Florida. Timothy Knetz of Venice, Florida. She is survived by 5 grandchildren and 7 great children.
She lived a long life that was well lived, and she loved her journey through it. She would want the moment of her departure to be celebrated in a manner similar to the way the moment of her arrival was greeted, with joy and with great expectations, and believed we can find the courage to lay this phase of the journey down when it is appropriate to do so, and to enter what is to come. Eternal Life: A New vision (201)
Rest in Peace dear mom / grandma you were loved and admired for your undying love and strength by all, and will always be remembered. See you on the other side.
Can't Stop the Spirits when they need you. Her life was more than a read through.
