Marilyn M. Craig passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Lake Forest Place in Illinois after a long illness.
Marilyn was born to Wilbur and Dorothy Mohr on October 5, 1930, in Big Bend, Wisconsin. She grew up in Mukwonago, Wisconsin, with her parents and three younger sisters, above the family Standard Oil station. She graduated from Mukwonago High School in 1948, where she was the drum majorette. In 1952, she graduated with a BS in Home Economics Journalism from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Marilyn married Raymond L. Craig in 1952, who predeceased her in 2015. They lived in Fort Belvoir, VA, and Stillwater, OK, before moving to Deerfield, IL, in 1956. Marilyn led an active life in Deerfield, raising her four children, playing tennis, volunteering her time and talents for numerous organizations, and as a member of First Presbyterian Church for almost 70 years. She was elected and served for many years as West Deerfield Township Clerk and then as Supervisor.
She is survived by her four loving children, Susan C. Guernsey (David, Jr.), Paul L. Craig (Sarah), Mark A. Craig (Paula), and Barbara A. Craig. Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren Margaret G. Gunter (Andrew), Elizabeth H. Guernsey (Terry McMahon), David T. Guernsey III (Justin Huxol), Malcolm A. Craig, Julia C. Smith (George), Emily C. Smith (Garrett), Charlotte S. Craig, Katherine L. Craig, and Jonathon T. Craig and great grandchildren Luke, Holden, Mollie, Jack, Caroline, and Quincy, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her sister Vivian Norton of Verona, WI. She was predeceased by her sisters Barbara M. Hall of Libertyville, IL, and Kathryn M. Naukkari of Oconomowoc, WI.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Deerfield, Illinois, on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Time is to be determined in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 824 Waukegan Road, Deerfield, IL 60015, or Geneva Foundation of Presbyterian Homes, 8707 Skokie Blvd, Suite 400, Skokie, IL 60077.
