Marilyn Crapo Obituary

Marilyn Elaine Cannon Crapo

July 17, 1933 ~ September 26, 2025

Marilyn Elaine Cannon Crapo passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the age of 92. She was born July 17, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Julian Saville Cannon and Ina Garff Cannon. She was the oldest of six children: Darrell (Kathy), Leigh (Marybeth), Shawna (Larry Mantle), Garff (Kim), and Julie. She was preceded in death by her sweet husband Reed, her parents, her brothers Leigh and Darrell, son-in-law Brad Izatt, and 3 great-granddaughters.

She attended Highland Park Elementary, Irving Jr. High, South High, and the University of Utah.

While working at Dunford Bakery, Marilyn was introduced to Reed Clement Crapo by her friend who was also Reed's cousin. On their very first date, she fell in love with him and knew she wanted him for eternity. They married in 1952 and lived in San Diego, California; Belvedere, South Carolina; Murray; and Sandy, Utah. Together they had nine children:

Steven (Sue), Diane (Brad) Izatt, Rolf (Ruth), Lee (Connie), April (Dan) Olds, Mark (Tiffany), Paul (Shirley), Elizabeth (Scott) Francom, and Joseph (Kimberley).

Their marriage was filled with simple joys, including numerous camping trips, time spent with family, and traditions that created lasting memories. Marilyn spent a lifetime serving her family, friends, and neighbors. She sacrificed her time, talents, and many of her dreams for those close to her. Each of her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren felt like they were her favorite and everyone she came in contact with felt loved by her.

She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions, which she dearly loved, including eight years in the Jordan River Temple encoding program, where she made many dear friends. Her Savior was her constant guide and inspiration, especially during the 34 years she was a widow.

Family was at the center of Marilyn's life. She built lasting traditions that brought her children and grandchildren together, creating memories filled with music, faith, food, laughter, and love. Every grandchild will always remember how, as they left her home, Marilyn would stand at the door and wave goodbye until they were completely out of sight-a simple but profound gesture of her enduring love.

Marilyn had a wonderful sense of humor and entertained all her care givers who fell in love with her. We want to thank all of them, especially Tiana and Dr Domanski.

At the time of her death, Marilyn's family consisted of nine children and their spouses, 48 grandchildren and their spouses, and 93 great-grandchildren, for a total of 200 family members.

There will be a viewing on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Monday morning, October 6, 2025, from 10:00 to 10:45 am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am. The viewing and funeral services will be held at the LDS meeting house at 9636 South 1700 East, Sandy, Utah.
