Marilyn Hatcher Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaines Funeral Home - Maple Heights on Dec. 29, 2025.
Marilyn Hatcher, affectionately known to many as "Mert" and "Ginger," peacefully transitioned on December 20, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on January 1, 1961, in Cleveland, Ohio, Marilyn was the beloved daughter of the late Melvin and Geraldine Valentine. A proud Cleveland native, Marilyn graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1979. She went on to attend Cuyahoga Community College, earning her degree in Early Childhood Education in 1983. Her life's work was centered around caring for others. She began her career at Centers for Families and Children, where she dedicated 13 years of service, before continuing her calling at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. There, she served for more than 25 years as a Patient Care Nursing Assistant, a role she embraced with compassion, consistency, and pride. Marilyn shared 34 loving years of marriage with her husband, Carl C. Hatcher. Their bond was one of devotion, partnership, and deep love until Carl's passing on April 21, 2024.

She leaves behind her cherished children, Antonio Veira and Ebony Valentine, who were the heart of her world. Marilyn is also survived by her brother, Melvin Valentine Jr. (Sandra), and was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Valentine (Ruth), in 2017.

She was a devoted and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews: Tayana, Kristina, Crystal, Tierra, Melvin III, and Caiden. Known for her strong work ethic and steady routines, Marilyn found joy in traveling, keeping her home immaculate, and faithfully showing up to work each day. Family and friends will forever remember her famous spaghetti salad, a signature dish that brought everyone together and became a cherished part of family gatherings. Marilyn "Mert" "Ginger" Hatcher will be remembered for her quiet strength, her unwavering dedication to her family, and a life rooted in service and love. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched, cared for, and nurtured. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
