Marilyn E. Henninger, 85, of State College, PA. passed away on October 25, 2025. Born April 14, 1940, in Bellefonte, PA, she was the daughter of the late Macklin E. and Bernice H. (Pifer) John. Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Centre County, where she cultivated a life full of compassion, service, and family.
Marilyn graduated from State College High School in 1958. She studied at the Centre County Vocational-Technical School and became a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse at Center Crest Nursing Home, where she provided comfort and solace to countless individuals in their times of need. In 1984, Marilyn embarked on a new venture, starting an in-home daycare that she ran with dedication and love until her retirement in 2002.
As a member of Mount Nittany Methodist Church, Marilyn's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. She lived her beliefs through her actions, always offering a helping hand and a kind word to those around her.
Her interests were as nurturing as her personality. Marilyn's garden was a source of joy and beauty, much like her life. She took pleasure in craft projects and quilt-making, with each stitch carrying the warmth of her love – quilts that became cherished heirlooms for her family. Marilyn's laughter was a frequent sound during her bingo games, a hobby she greatly enjoyed.
She was known as Marilyn, Johnsie, Mom, Aunt Marilyn, but the name she was most proud to be called was Mammy.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories with her daughters, Kimberly Rhodes (Rich) and Sheri Vuccolo (Jimmy); her five grandchildren, Dennis Myers, Jr. (Dmi), Shawn Myers, and Brittany Myers (Zech Hoy), Tyler Vail, and Courtney Kowach (David); and her 11 great-grandchildren, Renae Marshall, Kayanna Myers, Kaiden Myers, Malaynie Myers, Maaliyah Myers, Hendrix Myers, Camryn Myers, Lily Myers-Finnegan, Rosie Myers-Finnegan, Mia Kowach, and Carson Kowach.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Bruce and Robert John.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the community room at Mount Nittany Residents. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Swimley officiating.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, her kindness and love will live on through her family and all who knew her.
Private interment will be at the Pine Hall Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Centre County Paws 1401 Trout Rd, State College, PA 16801 at https://www.centrecountypaws.org or to the M. E.
