Marilyn Holbert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pivont Funeral Home - Hinton on Aug. 28, 2025.
Marilyn J Holbert, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2025 at her home in Watercrest Senior Living, The Villages, Florida.

Marilyn was born in Ashland, Kentucky, but moved as a child to Hinton, West Virginia. Her parents were Fred E. Huddleston and Thelma Mae Bear Huddleston. She graduated from Hinton High School and went to Stuart Circle Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond Virginia. She graduated as an RN in 1955.

Marilyn married James "Dutch" Holbert in August of 1955 in Henderson, NC. They were married for 65 years before Dutch passed away on June 30, 2021. Their careers soon took them to Toledo, Ohio where they lived until they retired to enjoy year-round sunshine at The Plantation retirement community at Leesburg, Florida.

Throughout her life, Marilyn enjoyed golf, bridge, lifelong learning, and travel. Her career as an RN saw her serving in hospitals, working for oral surgeons, and spending 20 years with the American Red Cross.

Marilyn moved to Watercrest Independent Senior Living in September of 2022, where she enjoyed meeting fellow residents, crafts, and social activities.

She was preceded in death by her only sister, Phyllis Bear Rosemond. Survivors include her niece Karen Lewis, and her great nieces and nephew, Nicole Kesling, Allison Kirkley, Drew Kesling, and Maggie English. Marilyn is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Carol Holbert, who has been nearly as much "daughter" as sister-in-law her whole life.

She will be greatly missed and always loved.

A private burial will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton, WV.
