PITTSFIELD
Joseph Q. Holbert, Sr., 62, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on March 2, 1963, in
Hancock, NY, the son of the late George and Jean (Cheresko) Holbert.
Joe was a devoted and loving husband, a proud father, a cherished grandfather, and a loyal friend. His family meant everything to him, and his kindness and generosity extended far beyond his home. Joe spoke of his children wherever he went and bragged about how proud he was of them. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joe dedicated much of his working life to serving his community as a school bus driver. He proudly drove bus for Unadilla Valley Central School for 25 years and later for Morris Central School for five years. Over the years, he built countless friendships and touched many lives, especially those of the children he transported safely each day. He truly enjoyed his work and took pride in being a familiar, friendly face to students and families alike.
A man who never met a stranger, Joe had a gift for conversation and connection. Whether running errands or attending events, there was never a place he went where he didn't know someone-or make a new friend. He believed strongly in second chances and was always willing to help anyone in need, no matter the circumstances. His compassion, patience, and understanding left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Joe had a special love for antique tractors and could often be found admiring or talking about them. His easygoing nature, welcoming spirit, and genuine interest in others made people feel comfortable and valued. Friends and family alike will remember his warmth, his willingness to listen, and his unwavering support.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Beverly Holbert; his children, Joseph (Stephanie) Holbert, Jr. and Mallory Holbert; and his grandchildren, Alivia Jorgensen, Zakkery Jorgensen, Conner Holbert, and Quintin Holbert, who brought him immense joy and pride.
He is also survived by his brothers, David (Sue) Holbert, George (Deenna) Holbert, and Roger (Kris) Holbert; his sisters, Beverly Lenz-Fagan, Carol (Greg) Thomas, Susan (Art) Holbert, and Catherine (Wayne) Holbert; his sister-in-law, Cindy Holbert; brother-in-law, Steve (Candy) Bott, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving are close friends Joseph Cornell and Michael Cornell, whom he considered family. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, George and Jean Holbert; his brother, Edward Holbert; and his sister, Nancy Johnson.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours at the Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home, 60 Broad Street, Morris, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m.
