Marilyn married Richard in early June of 1957 in Spokane and then made their home in Walla Walla where Richard got his first teaching job with the Walla Walla School District. Their first child, Rick, was born a year after they were married in 1958. They went on to have 5 more children – May Ann in 1959, Stephen in 1963, Michael in 1966, Jennifer in 1967, and Meegan in 1971.
Marilyn worked part time as a nurse at St. Mary’s hospital in Walla Walla while raising her children. She began full time work there after her children were a little older. Marilyn was a very accomplished seamstress and quilter. When her older children were young, she actually sewed a good portion of their clothing.
In addition to raising 6 children and having their own individual careers, Marilyn and Richard also took on housing remodels. They were well ahead of their time. Their children often joked that they were the original house flippers. Too bad there was no HGTV back then!
After retiring Marilyn and Richard moved from Walla Walla to Idaho where they spent part of their time in Moscow (remodeling yet another house) and part of their time at their lake property on Coeur d’Alene Lake. They were also able to do a good deal of traveling all over the world.
Marilyn lived a very full life and she so very much enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Spending time with her special great granddaughter Oakleigh the last years of her life really helped to lift her spirits and made her days so much brighter. She always said that a visit from Oakleigh was the best medicine!
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Norris and Salina Boothe, her sister Patsy Sticklemeyer, her loving husband of almost 66 years Richard, her son Rick, and her daughter Jennifer.
Marilyn is survived by her children Mary Ann (Bob), Stephen (Sheila), Michael, and Meegan. Her grandchildren Sarah, Emily, Nicole, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Noah, Kolby, Karden, Easton, and Christopher. Her great granddaughters Oakleigh, Rylie, and Makenna.
