Marilyn Tatum Mozingo

Marilyn Tatum Mozingo, 65, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at her home in Ashland, Oregon.

Born in Charlottesville on September 27, 1944, to Robert and Sarah Tatum, she graduated from Lane High School in 1962 and later, in 1979, earned her B.A. degree in English and American Studies from George Mason University.

In 1966, Marilyn married George "Tony" Mozingo of Fairfax, Virginia.The 44 year marriage produced no children, but did include an uninterrupted chain of beloved pet cats and dogs. Marilyn accompanied Tony on his many FBI career transfers, the last being to Monterey, California, where they resided in Carmel Valley. In retirement, they later lived in Hawaii, and finally, in Ashland, in the home they designed and built in 2006-2007.

While in Carmel Valley, Marilyn studied studio art and discovered an unknown wealth of talent. She created dozens of oil paintings reflecting her gift of color management and her empathy for women and children who suffer starvation and deprivation. Her works hung in many juried, and two solo, shows; they earned high county and state-wide awards.

Besides Tony, she is survived by her only sibling, Robert W.Tatum Jr. and his wife, Susan, of North Garden, Virginia; two nephews, one niece, four great-nieces and one great-nephew, and a much loved cousin, Diane Prevary, of Houston, Texas. Extended family includes two aunts and many cousins and their families, all living in or nearby Virginia.

Marilyn wished her ashes to be scattered near her home in Ashland. A celebration of her life will be held in this area on Sunday, June 20, 2010.
