Marilyn Mathis Scott, 78, of Murfreesboro, passed away on Wednesday August 27, 2025. Marilyn was born on October 31, 1946 to Charles F. and Clara C. Mathis. As the youngest of eight children, Marilyn certainly did not have a boring childhood. Among her favorite memories of this time were hiking up to the Watering Trough and swimming next door in the Bacons' pool with her lifelong best friend Jeanette. Marilyn graduated from Central High School in 1964. It was there she met her high school sweetheart and husband of fifty-seven years, Kenneth. Marilyn and Kenneth began their adventures together on the 3rd of April, 1965. Those adventures included two beloved children, two cherished grandchildren, and many opportunities to engage in one of Marilyn's greatest passions, traveling. In addition to traveling, Marilyn enjoyed reading a good mystery book, watching a juicy case unfold on Court TV, and sitting down to a plate of her own homemade cornbread and pinto beans. Along with raising her family, Marilyn had not one but two successful professional careers. Soon after graduating high school, she began a journey with the Tennessee Valley Authority that would last for twenty-five years. After leaving TVA, Marilyn founded EDI International and was on the forefront of electronic data interchange implementation for another twenty-five years. She retired in 2014 and enjoyed the quiet life with Kenneth until his passing in January of 2022. Marilyn loved her Lord above all else. She tried her best to follow his example throughout her entire life. Marilyn showed kindness, compassion, and generosity to everyone she encountered during her time on Earth. Although it became more difficult for her to attend church in person during her later years, that did not stop Marilyn from worshiping in her own way at home. She could often be found watching a Gaither Homecoming show and reading her Bible at any given time of the day or night. In addition to her husband and parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her brothers Charles, Richard, Robert, Cecil, Lamar, and Grady Euvon. She is survived by her children Mike Scott of Murfreesboro, Tn. and Shannon (Doug) Arrington of Murfreesboro, Tn., grandchildren Brenda Arrington of Murfreesboro, Tn. and Noah Arrington of San Diego, Ca., sisters Carolyn Crittenden of Athens, Tn., and a wealth of cousins, nieces and nephews. All of whom she loved dearly. Arrangements entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216. 615-865-1101. https://www.springhillfh.com
