Marilyn Zavorski

Marilyn Zavorski, 78, passed away peacefully on November 15th 2024 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 51 years Thomas Zavorski of Stow; her son Alex Zavorski; her daughter Katie Hall & her husband Erik; her two grandchildren Zach and Ryan; her sister Carolyn; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Marilyn devoted her life to the field of education, inspiring countless students, colleagues and community members throughout her distinguished career. She received her Bachelors of Education from Alma College in Michigan and her Masters in Community Leadership and Development from Springfield College in Massachusetts while embarking on her teaching career that lasted for over 30 years. During this time, she did it all, covering the academics of grades 2-6 as well as the topics of art, music, and physical education. During the last eight years of her education career, Marilyn served as the Teaching American History grant coordinator for the public schools of Stow, Hudson, Maynard, and Bolton.
Marilyn's passion for family and education extended beyond her official teaching career. She would often be found chaperoning field trips for her own children and then for her grandchildren. She also took on the role of School Marm at Stow's one-room schoolhouse, dressing in period attire for the Student's of Center School and leading them through a lesson when they visited the school. Marilyn spent her down-time in her gardens, which seemed to expand every year. Hours were spent each day tending to her vegetables and flowers. She took great pride in her work and often shared her vegetables and garden knowledge with her amazing neighbors, many of whom she considered family.
Marilyn resided in Stow for over 40 years and was heavily involved with the community throughout the years. Most recently, she was the president of the Stow Historical Society where she contributed to preserving the rich history of her community. She would often be found developing community programs and hosting guest historical speakers. In 2021, she authored a book entitled Celebrating Stow's Women, which highlighted the remarkable women of Stow who voted for the first time after the passage of the 19th amendment.
A public celebration of life will be held on November 22, 2024 at the Stow Community Center from 2-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Stow Historical Society, PO Box 40, Stow, MA 01775.
