Mario A. Hernandez

Mario A. Hernandez, age 61, of Elgin, IL, passed away on December 23, 2025. He was born April 27, 1964 in Mexico to his loving parents, Doroteo Hernandez and Teofila Montiel de Hernandez.

Mario was married to the love of his life, Alma, for 35 wonderful years. Their love story began in elementary school and blossomed into a lifelong partnership rooted in laughter, loyalty, and shared joy. Together they built a home filled with warmth, music, and the ever-present sound of laughter-often sparked by Mario's quick wit and the nicknames he gave nearly everyone he met.

For 34 years, Mario worked with quiet pride and strong hands at Big Bolt, where his work ethic and sense of humor left a lasting impression on those around him.

Family was always at the heart of Mario's world. He was the kind of person who showed his love not only in words, but in action-through hard work, shared meals, and moments in the yard planting fresh flowers each spring. That season, in particular, brought him joy; it was a time of new beginnings, colors, and family traditions.

When he wasn't working or tending to his yard, Mario could often be found with music playing in the background and his loved ones nearby. Whether he was cracking a joke, spending time with family, or planting something new in the garden, Mario's presence made everything feel lighter and more joyful.

He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, humor, and deep love for those fortunate enough to know him.

Mario was preceded in death by his brother, Antonio Hernandez; and sister, Carmen Rivera. He is survived by his wife, Alma Hernandez; children, Mario A. Hernandez Jr. and Ulises Hernandez; and siblings, Felipe Hernandez, Rafael Hernandez, Martha Hernandez, Lilia Sam, Rosario Robles, Julieta Silva, Francisco Hernandez, and Doroteo Hernandez.

Visitation will be 4:00pm - 8:00pm, Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120.

Mass will be at 11:00am, Friday, January 2, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 270 Division Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Monsignor Arquimedes Vallejo will be officiating.

Interment to follow at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Boulevard, Elgin, IL 60120.
