Mario J. Tarantino April 3, 1953 – August 11, 2025
Mario Joseph Tarantino left this earthly place on August 11, 2025.
He was born on April 3, 1953, the second son of Mario and Pauline Tarantino, who predeceased him. He grew up in Harrison, NY and graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle with a degree in Building and Property Management. He had a long career in that field, and he retired in 2020.
Mario loved to hunt on the farm property acquired by his parents in 1965. He learned to hunt from his father and many of his father's friends during every big game season. This early hunting experience gave him a passion for firearms, and he amassed quite a collection.
He spent many summers at Sno Hill Camp in Lake Como, first as a camper who was particularly fond of riding and taking care of the horses. Later, as a counselor, he was a riding instructor and groomer, both of which gave him great joy.
He and his siblings were musical. Lucia remembers Mario and Joe playing guitars with her accompanying them on the piano in the living room. Later, they would both join the high school orchestra as horn players, and Mario was also chosen to play trombone in the dance band. He continued his love of music and had an XM radio installed on his motorcycle.
He made many trips all over the Northeast and Canada on his Honda Gold Wing. The week-long trips with his crew of riding friends were something he looked forward to several times a year.
He was strong in his views and always wiling to have a spirited debate. The family had to come up with a sign to make sure things did not get too heated at family gatherings – lay a finger aside your nose, and everyone would stop talking and move onto something else.
He is survived by his siblings Joe & Monica, Paul, and Lucia and many special cousins.
His wish was for cremation and for his ashes to be spread on the farm. There will be no services.
