Marion “Lucy” Hamric, 86, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Charlotte.
A funeral mass to honor Lucy’s life will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, September 5th at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock, presided by Rev. Jim Bucholz. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at 12 p.m., Tuesday, September 10th at the Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Lucy was born on May 13, 1938, in Ilion, New York, to the late Michael and Anna Morris. She graduated from Annunciation High School with the Class of 1955 and went on to pursue her passion for nursing at Crouse-Irving Nursing School in Syracuse, New York, where she graduated in 1958.
Shortly after completing Nursing School, Lucy moved to California where she met her beloved husband of 61 years, Richard Hamric. They later returned to the East Coast, settling in Carteret County. Lucy devoted numerous years to serving others at Carteret General Hospital, where she later retired. A devoted Catholic woman, Lucy faithfully attended Annunciation Catholic Church.
In her leisure time, Lucy enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and homemaking. She had a knack for knitting and cherished watching cowboy movies. Lucy’s greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren and her love for animals, which brought immense happiness into her life.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sonja Hamric of New Bern, NC, Stephanie Moseley (Robert) of Charlotte, NC, Sandra Plisko (John) of Newport, NC, Michael Hamric (Brenna) of Havelock, NC, and Matthew Hamric (Tricia) of Winnabow, NC; step-daughter, Cathy Rhoades (Todd) of Hubert, NC; sister, Nancy Kolwaite (John) of Schenectady, NY; brothers, Michael Morris of Ilion, NY and Paul Morris (Omyra) of St. Augustine, FL; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband Richard Hamric who passed away in on November 29, 2007.
